For some, lingerie is meant to be concealed and hidden away under clothing or behind doors. But personally, it is a wonderland to be explored. I have never felt more confident than when I wear a proper piece of lingerie. Granted, its purpose is to emphasize and correct the wearer’s figure, but it is also very much a mental thing because when I wear lingerie it makes me feel powerful. This power, may be hidden underneath a gown or it can be worn for the all to see.
I have never owned “proper” lingerie until my very recent and financially reckless purchase at Agent Provacateur (a la Karl Lagerfeld’s “buy smaller sizes and less food”). There was something about this piece that drew me to it, be it the practicality of the nude lace or the strong yet flexible plastic boning. Originally I just wanted to try it on to see how it would fit considering my petite frame, it might have been too long for my torso. But when the sales associate started lacing me up, it was game over. I could see why a piece like this would retail for close to $700. The craftsmanship on the piece was like none other corsets I’d seen up until then. The way that the flimsy looking lace panels and the plastic boning shaped me was like magic. Never would I have thought that something so delicate looking could give my boyish figure a 1950s va va voom. So I slapped down the credit card and told myself “who needs to eat when you look this good?”
